What is the best way to clean a used crib mattress?

I got a used crib mattress from a friend of ours for our new crib. We are expecting in January and I want to clean the crib mattress before I put sheets on it. I was going to use bleach water but I wasnt sure if it is safe. Does anyone know the best way to go about this?

I would use vinegar/water solution instead. The vinegar disinfects, but has a lot less chemical/fumes.
If you do use a bleach solution, let the mattress air outside very well before you bring it back in to use. It should have no trace of chlorine smell left. You might want to even wipe it down a few times afterwards with a little warm soapy water, just to get all the bleach off.
