Why Keep Your Waterbed Mattress Clean?

Posted by Finest Mattress Comments (0)

Because you have a waterbed service guy coming to fix your mattress and he will really appreciate it : )
That’s right not only do I sell waterbeds, but sometimes I have to service them as well and some of these bad boys… well lets just say wow, people please, have you no shame? You have me about to service your bed and you go on explaining that you are having a problem with your waterbed mattress constantly getting holes in it? Couldn’t possibly be the bucket full of crud that I cleaned out from between the liner and mattress could it? What is obvious to a service guy of 23 years may not be to the average waterbed user, so I have decided to use my blogging technology to reach the masses.

Here are some simple basic tips to get your waterbed mattress to last longer.

Install a new clean safety liner. If this guy is broke down, dirty, split in the corners you’ve got Problems waiting to happen. Dirt, exposed wood framing, or hardware can play havoc on a mattress.  This is one of the biggest reasons for mattress failures and it’s curable with a few minutes of cleaning time or 25.00 or so dollars for a new one. This little tip will make your mattress last longer and in most cases much longer. We have commonly seen waterbed mattresses going bad in 3 to 5 years that ignore this little must do.

More great waterbed care tips.

Try investing in a good mattress pad or protector.  Clean it frequently. This keeps body oils, dirt and grime off your bed. Try using a nice quality 100% cotton, polyester, or blend mattress pad. It absorbs body oils and perspiration much better. Dirt and body oils will harden a vinyl mattress causing it to become brittle and crack. As your mattress gets older it losses the plasticizers which make it soft and pliable just like your vinyl car seats. Dirt and grime speeds up the wearing process. Most warranties require use of a good mattress pad.

Here is a simple tip clean your mattress at least several times a year.
If you have nothing else, warm water and a soft rag will do. DO NOT bleach the inside or outside your mattress. It can damage the mattress and void any warranty you have. Instead use a water bed vinyl cleaner or even Armor All. Anything that says it softens and rejuvenates vinyl.

You really don’t want to forget these maintenence tips

Don’t forget to add waterbed conditioner to the inside of your mattress. This will help you condition the vinyl and help keep it from going sour and stinking. You don’t want that to happen. The odor will penetrate the vinyl and it will smell like soured laundry or a locker room. Always read directions on the bottle of the conditioner. It will tell you how long it is good for. Bottle size is not a guide.

Here is a  waterbed filling tip most people don’t know about. If you are using an old garden hose with water in it, be sure to flush it out for a minute or so before attaching it to your waterbed. This should flush any bacteria from the hose making the mattress less likely to sour.

These simple hints should help your waterbed mattress last much longer and oh yeah don’t  do like I had one customer do and throw  your brand new mattress in to the car trunk  from hell out of box. I can pretty much assure you that you will be messing with a first day leaker.

Adjustable Bed From Reverie For Better Health?

Posted by Finest Mattress Comments (1)

When we were kids our moms knew that sleep was essential for our good health and doctors today second mom’s opinion. It is unfortunate but most of us do not get the sleep we need. So why can’t people sleep? Is it because they can’t get comfortable in a regular mattress? There are more reasons than just discomfort that people purchase adjustable beds. Here are some other reasons people don’t sleep well:

• Insomnia
• Asthma
• Degenerative spondylolisthesis,
• Osteoarthritis,
• Improper Digestion
• Heart Problems
• Circulatory issues
• Improper Digestion

Can adjustable beds and mattresses assist with health related issues?

For years now Adjustable beds have been a hospital necessity helping people get more comfortable and beds like the Reverie Adjustable bed being used by people in their own homes. The versatility hundreds of different sleep and sitting positions can be a huge aid in making people comfortable even when their health does not allow them to be. Average people can benefit too by having a bed that they can sit up and read in or simply watch TV.

What to do when  you suffer and cannot sleep

For those people who suffer from various types of pains or conditions an adjustable bed by Reverie may be just the answer. Craftmatic said it best “that its hard to get comfortable in an ordinary traditional flat bed” and for people who suffer with ailments like severe back pain adjustable beds could be the answer for at least some level of pain relief. Reverie offers a practical solution to people who have experience with this kind of pain. Simply reposition the mattress of your choosing into whatever position that will allow you to feel the very best you can feel.

For people who suffer from severe stomach conditions like acid reflux often find that a mattress elevated and raised at the head end have found their discomfort to be less severe which is why doctors will often recommend them. People frequently try using extra pillows and propping up their upper body and head only to have them slide out of position and not be nearly as affective.
Old and young people alike can suffer from Arthritis. The pain and muscle aches cause them to lose sleep. These changeable beds have allowed the  sleeper to sleep more sound by finding more comfortable sleeping positions in order to rest.

People who experience asthma or other breathing problems are benefiting from these types of beds because they are able to breathe better in a raised position. This makes a lot of sense because it allows their airways to become more open. Many people are reporting that they can now sleep more peacefully because of this type of bed.

Adjustable beds can cost a little bit more than a good quality traditional flat bed but can we put a price on a restful night of sleep? Doctors recommend 7-8 hours every night. People spend a small fortune on diet and exercise fads that are hard to stick too. Going to bed is easy and if we simply took the money we waste on diet and exercise and invest it in the 1/3 of our lives we spend sleeping  many of us would be significantly healthier. Owning the most supportive mattress and getting into the correct sleeping position can be  best accomplished with an adjustable bed. The cost of years of quality sleep may very well be offset by lower doctor bills due to fewer office visits.

Ways to improve your service in a Mattress & Furniture Store

Posted by Finest Mattress Comments (0)

Ever went into your local mattress store or Furniture Company only to feel you’ve been big time shafted?

Well I’d be lying if I told you in my 20+ years in the business that I hadn’t made someone mad handling various service issues. To be honest I have had more than a few customers who have told me as such. I never want people to feel like I have taken their money and I feel horrible when they think that is what has happened. So what are some of the most common problems that can improve the services that we receive?

Quick story: a customer buys a bed and a set of sheets from me. 1 1/2 years later they return to the store and buy another bed. Being the salesman I am I made the attempt to add onto the sale with a sheet set. The person tells me they we’re very disappointed with their first sheet set and would never buy another. When I asked if they returned them, they said they didn’t bother and threw them away. The lesson here is me STL Beds was never given the opportunity to exchange them or return them for a refund. I explained to them that I cannot make it right if I don’t know about the problem and gave them a brand new set free.

Sometimes the trouble is a result of confusion or remembrance. “Remember that mattress I bought back about a year ago from you” when in actuality it was bought 3 years ago.

How can service issues be resolved?

How STL Beds and many other stores handle such situations is by asking for the standard necessary information or documentation “ Do you have your receipt”? This is the customers’ proof of purchase, and proves they are the original purchaser. This is important for a couple reasons. The item could be out of manufacturers warranty or the warranty often times is not transferable to someone. It is regrettable but when the purchaser contacts the retailer without a receipt,  it makes it nearly impossible for them to process a warranty, solve a problem or answer a question they may have about their purchase.

What can you do if you do not have a copy of your receipt?

Not all businesses are computerized. Even companies that are, don’t necessarily enter your personal information into the system for future reference they may only utilize their computer system for bookkeeping.  Dealers are required in most states to keep sales receipts for a certain number of years for audit purposes. They are not required to keep receipts for customers for warranty claims. Some dealers like STL Beds strive to offer superior service after the sale by offering to sift through those years and months of records.

So what does a dealer need in order to do this? The purchaser can supply information found on a canceled check, which may either be returned to them after clearing the bank or may also be accessible through the bank itself.  Credit card charge receipts or even the monthly statements can provide the necessary purchase information a retailer is looking for in order to address the customers’ problem or question.

Tell us about your warranty experience.
